UPDATE MARCH 2014:

We have received many emails and phone calls from both new and past customers wondering if Steve will go back to selling raw milk. At this point in time, he is not able to open it up to the general public for many reasons. If anything changes, I will immediately post it to the blog. Thank you for understanding!

Welcome to Galens Homestead Acres!

Welcome to the Galens Homestead Acres Blog!

The purpose of this blog is to inform our customers of any immediate issues that they need to know about, such as an issue that would prevent us from selling milk on a scheduled milk day.

In such an event, we would be unable to notify every customer in time and we would like to prevent anyone from having to make the trip here and then find out that Steve was unable to sell milk that day!

So, we are urging our customers to check the blog regularly to learn of any issues such as these. The blog could also be used for our customers to connect with each other for the purpose of ride-sharing or suggestions on what to use the milk for in addition to drinking.

If you do want a question answered, we suggest you contact us at galens@fltg.net or call us at 315-462-5178 since we will not be accessing the blog on a daily basis unless to post an immediate issue that everyone must know about.

  4. We love Galen's farm! Things are always clean and well taken care of. We've never had any problems, and we sure love the milk!

  5. Dan-I have had the best experience purchasing raw milk from the Galens. The farm is spotless clean, the people are fantastic, and the milk tastes exceptional! The price for the product and the time to get there is well worth it! Stacey

  6. I have to second that - the milk room (and entire farm) is super clean, Steve is a very pleasant and knowledgeable person to do business with, and, honestly, the price is very economical.

  7. I am also considering switching to raw milk and I am wondering how long it stays good for.

    1. If you fill up a gallon in quart bottles it will easily keep for a week. The cream on top gets a bit sour but that doesn't mean it has gone bad. Raw milk doesn't go bad it gets better. Pasteurized milk goes bad when it sours. A lot of the beneficial bacteria is eliminated by pasteurisation and when it gets old it actually putrifies colonised by too many unhealthy bacteria. Not so with raw milk. If you don't like the sour taste make Kefir with it or yogurt or any old fashioned curdled milk.

  8. I have had it stay good for 2 weeks in the fridge. There was not a hint of sourness after that time. I haven't tried to keep it longer because I drink all of it by then.

  9. You must check out the media link to the Finger Lakes Times! It is great!!
By the way... I live right next door to the farm and it is always clean and well maintained. The family are great neighbors!
About the raw milk... it is delicious and lasts at least 2 weeks in the frig. The cream off the top is EXCELLENT in coffee! The milk makes great yogurt and cheeses also.

  10. I have been to the farm twice, and I am hooked! This is my first experience with Raw Milk, and the folks at Galen's really impressed me. The milk room is so clean and spotless. They wear rubber gloves while filling your containers. The milk tastes wonderful. It isn't flash pasturized. It goes from cow, through stainless steel piping, through filter, and into cooling tank that they fill your container from. Great Milk, Great Price, Great Folks!

  21. Does anyone know where to buy 64 oz wide mouth glass containers? Last week was my first time at Galen's and I loved the milk! I brought plastic milk jugs but found that the veteran raw milk users had wide mouth glass containers.

  22. My parents are in the Chili area and unfortunately not in a position to be driving out to the farm right now. I'd love to get them access to raw milk, though! Open to any options I can work out - maybe pitching in gas money? Anyone with ideas/suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

  23. For folks who are looking for the 64 oz wide mouth glass jars, locally the hardware store on Main St. in Clifton Springs carries them almost exclusively for our milk customers. I am not sure of the hours, but their phone number is 315-462-2826 in case you want to call them. Make sure to wash them in hot water before using them for milk.

  25. Hello folks. One of the customers of Galen's Farm teaches community classes on how to make your own cheese at home. She says it's easy, and recommends beginners learn to make mozzarella! I am hosting a class at my home in Canandaigua Friday Feb. 18th, from 6-8pm. Cost is $22. We have 4 people coming so far. I can fit a couple more. Can call Pam at 585-330-5985. 29. This is Such a sad week. I understand why Steve has to stop the sale of milk but it is a thing my wife is really going to miss. Here is to hoping mother nature smiles on us and the cows will be producing plenty of milk in the neaar future. I love and will miss the chat times while waiting, and it so uncommon to be able to buy a decent product at a good prrice from someone who takes pride in their product. Good luck to the Galens family, and I will be waiting for you to re-open your sales.

  31. Literally checking weekly, hoping to see Raw milk "back on line"! We do not eat conventional dairy at all, so we are waiting anxiously for your milk to be available again! I hope your herd is healthy and recovering from the stressful summer. Your milk quality is impeccable and we are so honored to have access to such a wholesome, nutritious product. This Paleo family is looking forward to being able to have milk yogurt and cheese again!
